Addressing anti-Judaism: An update to the Revised Common Lectionary

The Consultation on Common Texts, the ecumenical consultation responsible for the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL), has proposed teaching materials and updates to the lectionary to respond to concerns about anti-Jewish interpretations in the proclamation of Scripture in our worshiping assemblies during Holy Week and other times. This provisional update to the RCL is now commended to the churches for a three-year trial period, beginning in Advent 2025. Read more about this work from the ecumenical and ELCA perspective.

New study guide on the Joint Statement on the Filioque

This year marks the 1,700th anniversary of the first ecumenical Council of Nicaea, which led to the development of the Nicene Creed. Recent developments in Lutheran-Orthodox relations present the possibility of continuing the journey toward reconciliation between Eastern and Western Christianity after nearly a millennium of church division over the addition of the filioque clause (“and the Son”) to the creed. This division was meaningfully addressed in the Common Statement on the Filioque, issued by the Joint International Commission on Theological Dialogue Between the Lutheran World Federation and the Orthodox Church. A new study guide provides a variety of entry points including study, worship, prayer, liturgy, and local dialogue and cooperation.

NRSV available until June 30 for Sundays and Seasons subscribers

Since October 2024, subscribers to SundaysandSeasons.com have had access to both the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition (NRSVue) under the “Bible” tab. After June 30, the NRSV will no longer be available at SundaysandSeasons.com. This represents an eight-week grace period from the previously announced date of May 1.
